The small brown dog just wouldn't stop sniffing at Kenneth's crotch, despite repeated shoo-ing, waving of newspapers and playful bumps on the nose. Perhaps it was that tuna sandwich that he had been carrying in his pocket, or maybe the dog was attracted to a faint residual smell of horse semen that had given Kenneth so much trouble from dogs at the time. It had been some years now, and the trousers had been thoroughly washed many times since, but the powerful olfactory apparatus of the dog pitted against the tenacity of the stain could go some way towards explaining this now common occurence. The neighbourhood kids, and even some of the adults, had grown to expect a trail of panting dogs in tow wherever Kenneth showed his cheery face, unknowingly leading them on his bike all about town, the dogs not knowing exactly why or what they were chasing and usually ending up chasing each other in the huge dog riots that would ensue. Walkers, owners, breeders and handlers could feel a palpable ripple of excitement pass through dog kind, and knew it was time to lock up and safely tether any dogs that they cared about before the riots began. But this small brown dog had not been stowed, and was the first Kenneth had seen in many months. To onlookers at the time, it was a sure sign that the dog riots were far from over.
