Documenting the life of the moth had it's advantages, even when it seemed to be getting in the way of a healthy timetable of meals and regular sleep patterns. It would have helped immensely if Kenneth would drop his pretences and actually read some of the existing literature on the matter. However, Kenneth was steadfast in his belief that a whole new understanding could only be reached with a wholly independent inquiry into the behaviours, colourings, language and customs of what, he was beginning to find, was a massively varied set of creatures. Within even the small set of observable moth-like creatures nearby, there was enough variation and overlapping of types for him to reconsider his classifications nearly every day. Finding what later turned out to be the same exact moth four hundred and thirty-two times towards the end of one thirty-hour observation session had led him to excitedly project a vast population of this particular variety, only to find that in fact there was usually more differences between individual moths of the same species than he had been finding. Some complications had also arisen as to the boundaries of the order he was describing, there being many similarities with other organisms. A number of other creatures, for example, shared the characteristic of being found on Kenneth's ceiling at night, when the window was left open. One or two of these were also to be found during the day, when the window was closed, suggesting some direction for his classification index. Unfortunately, the index at this stage was proving quite difficult to navigate as Kenneth's impromptu alpha-numeric system grew ever more complicated to accommodate his shifting suppositions. But all-in-all, it had been a productive week, and he was glad he had not wasted his time.
